The purposeful brand of Melissa Joy Manning
Who is Melissa Joy Manning?
Melissa Joy Manning is an entrepreneur and designer whose jewelry has dazzled the pages of Vogue, Brides, Sheer Luxe, and other fashion magazines over the course of her 25 years in the industry.
If it’s been a while since you picked up a good old fashioned magazine but you did catch every episode of You on Netflix (*raises hand*), you saw some of Melissa’s pieces being worn by the object of Joe’s obsession, Guinevere Beck, played by Elizabeth Lail.
Her Background
A California native, Manning studied jewelry design at University of California, San Diego. As if her west coast experience didn’t make her effortlessly cool enough, Manning went on to study traditional silversmithing at the University of Barcelona.
With those skills and immeasurable inspiration in tow, Manning launched her namesake brand in 1997, which is now sold in over 300 stores across the globe.
The Brand's Mission
It’s natural for designers to aspire to create pieces that set them apart from their peers—but with Manning’s commitment to reducing waste, preventing damage to the environment, and making a positive impact on the world, she takes that natural knack a step (or a thousand) further.
Each piece is handcrafted in studios with a zero-waste policy using Green Certified techniques and 100% recycled and reused material—even the packaging. The materials for each custom piece are sourced from ethically friendly suppliers that abide by local environmental regulations, and never mass produced in a factory.
The artisans themselves embrace the brand’s goals by using environmentally friendly cleaning supplies, working under LED lights powered by renewable energy, and even biking to work.
Charity Work
Manning’s impact goes far beyond the Netflix screen and the studio—as do her sales. Three percent of the total goes to charities and food banks around the world, and a portion is donated to over 30 charities throughout the year.
On International Women’s Day in 2022, Melissa Joy Manning donated 10% of sales to UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund). And on Pride Day, 10% of sales went to The Marsha P. Johnson Institute, a project that defends the rights of the LGBTQ community.
Customers who shopped during the company’s recent 12 Days of Giving knew their purchase would do more than elevate their wardrobe—12% of those earnings were automatically donated to a different charity every day.
Shop the Jewelry
Shopping Melissa Joy’s pieces is akin to donating to causes close to the heart, and—not unlike one-of-a-kind, elegant jewelry—we can always use more of that. The collection includes simple and modern earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, and anklets influenced by Melissa’s passion for travel, art, and culture.
So—we’ll assume you’re sold and want to know where to start.
From our collection, the gold chain necklaces, hug earrings, and Marquis White Diamond wedding rings have been huge hits, and the Round Hoop Earrings are a simple silver or gold hoop available in multiple sizes to meet the bold and the more risk-averse dressers exactly where they are.
Melissa Joy Manning jewelry is designed to be treasured and to make an impact—in daily looks and charitable causes, and the world they exist in.
