A smooth 22k yellow gold band ring featuring a sea of granulation between two walls. Granulation is an ancient art form, believed to have originated in Sumer over 5000 years ago. It involves the application of microscopic spheres of gold individually placed on the surface of another piece of gold. The consistently shaped granules evenly laid out in rows creates a soft shimmering surface reminiscent of silk fabric.

Archaeologist turned goldsmith Loren Nicole crafts each extraordinary piece herself, by hand, in her Hermosa Beach, California studio. Inspired by ancient metalsmithing techniques, her collections are richly sensual and assertively intellectual. Each year, she explores a different story from antiquity, combining history, materiality and beauty in groundbreaking and often surprising ways.
We love her charms, hand-made chains, and the remarkable finishing techniques she employs.
We admire her commitment to historical study and obsessive craftsmanship.
